Matt Swaim

Matt Swaim earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design and his Master of Fine Arts in Visual Art from Jacksonville University.
Matt has built his career in architectural illustration and visualization, with more than 30 years of experience in the architectural rendering profession. Throughout his career, he has produced well over 1,000 renderings for clients throughout the United States and abroad, working in a wide range of traditional and digital styles and techniques. In 2019, Matt was selected to join the United States Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program (AIP), an esteemed group of professional artists, illustrators, and designers who create designs for U.S. coins and medals. As an official U.S. Mint coin and medal designer, Matt has brought his extensive knowledge of architectural perspective and visual storytelling to the field of numismatic design, expanding his professional work beyond architectural visualization.
Since joining the U.S. Mint, his designs have been featured on the USS Indianapolis Congressional Gold Medal, American Innovation Series $1 coins representing Virginia and Tennessee, the silver dollar obverse for the Negro Leagues Baseball commemorative coin program, the silver dollar reverse for The Greatest Generation commemorative coin program, and the Greg LeMond Congressional Gold Medal.
Matt’s work has been featured in numerous publications and exhibitions. He has received the American Society of Architectural Illustrators’ Award of Excellence five times through its internationally juried Architecture in Perspective competition, as well as Jacksonville’s AIA Lynda Mack Award. His work has been included in the American Society of Architectural Illustrators’ Architecture in Perspective traveling exhibition, the New York Society of Architectural Renderers’ The Art of the Architectural Illustrator exhibition in New York City, the Japanese Architectural Renders Association’s 2012 Exhibition of Architectural Visualization, Art by Architects, and other publications and exhibitions.
In addition to architectural illustration and numismatic design, Matt works on traditional illustration projects, is an avid pen-and-ink sketch artist, and creates commissioned colored-pencil portraits. His architectural and colored-pencil work has been featured in Jacksonville’s Arbus magazine, while his portraiture and sketches have been selected for inclusion in North Light Books’ Strokes of Genius 5 and Strokes of Genius 6. In 2019, his work was featured in the special issue of Artists Magazine, “The Best of Drawing.”
Outside of his studio work, Matt enjoys teaching workshops on a range of topics related to architectural rendering, perspective, illustration, and traditional and digital illustration techniques.
