Initially drawn in black & white graphite on white vellum, this image was reproduce on a mylar surface and colored – on both sides – with prismacolor pencils to achieve a luminosity of effect for this evening setting. I also chose to represent the two design principals as figures in the drawing. This work was published (with two other selected pieces) in the second edition of the ASAI catalogue, when the Co-Founders (Steve Oles & myself) – decided after the first successful AIP competition in Boston, that our works should be equally reviewed, and either accepted or rejected by independent jurors.
Updating my posts & images in the new format for ASAI, I’ll be listing in sequence all of the 30+ pieces that have been selected by jury for the AIP catalogues, beginning with this work for one of my stalwart clients – who happen to be an AIA Firm Award winner as well. Short explanatory texts provide some background on the projects and the process for these illustrations.
